Mission Statement In 2007 the Inyo National Forest did honor 100 years of caring for the land and serving the needs of the local communities and visitors from across the nation and around the world. As we face our next century, we will continue to work in collaboration with communities and partners to manage for healthy landscapes and serve the visitors to this vast and unique national forest.
Volunteer Duties We are pleased to announce the 2011 internship opportunities on the Inyo National Forest. 
This year, the internship/volunteer program will be a wilderness management focus within the John Muir Wilderness and recently established White Mountains Widerness. Currently, the Forest is in the process of implementing a complex management plan. Implementation of this adaptive management program will provided the interns with an understanding of wilderness management and processes. The agency will provide housing, a stipend up to $49 per day, and may assist with travel expenses. 
Location: Bishop, California 
Duration: Flexible from mid June to early September 2011 
Job Qualification: College sophomore, junior, senior or recent graduates with an interest in forest/wilderness management are encouraged to apply. Must be physical fit and able to backpack at elevations from 8,000’ to 14,000’. Must be able to adapt to adverse environmental conditions and primitive camping conditions will be routine. 
Wilderness Core Values: The wilderness staff is committed to wilderness management and protection of these lands for present and future generations. Our staff will provide training to make for a safe and effective workforce and all members of the wilderness team will be respected for the contributions to this program. 

2011 Projects: Baseline resource condition collection, watershed restoration, trail rehabilitation, and wilderness education. Interns may also assist with providing oversight to volunteer organizations involved with wilderness restoration project.
